TVNZ Sunday Documentary -
The Baby Whisperer. Screened on TV One July 2007
Comments and Feedback:
Just watched 'the baby whisperer' and were amused with the end of the
programme advising parents not to sleep their baby's on their backs
according to Plunket. We had always slept our baby on his side, using a
wedge to support him, but after being advised that this is not
recommended we changed to sleeping him on his back and had terrible
results! He woke constantly and was very unsettled. We have returned to
sleeping him on his side! Results - happy baby, happy parents!
I watched with great hope your segment about the Baby Whisperer on last
weeks programme as i have been struggling to settle my 2 week old
daughter. I swaddled and lay my baby on her side as advised and she
slept for 7 hours straight the first night. The baby whisperers advice
certainly worked for me! Thank you very much from a tired mum!!
In response to your story "The baby whisperer", I can already hear
mothers around the country saying that you need exposure to and
experience with babies to know how to care for them, but are those not
precisely the qualities that Sharlene Poole has in buckets? Being the
child's biological parent clearly does not automatically qualify one as
being a great caregiver. Sharlene is obviously very talented at her
craft and offers a great alternative to mothers who fall outside the
bounds of Plunket.
